The questionnaire section of the LEAPS software is functionally complete, and ready to go to a live environment for beta testing. Also, the basic administrative functionality - allowing addition of questionnaire details and viewing / editing of submitted data - is ready for testing.

There are some questions to consider before moving to live beta:

  • Should the software be hosted on University equipment, LEAPS web server equipment, or alternative hosting?
  • If alternative hosting, would LEAPS like to manage it themselves or through me?
  • If alternative hosting is chosen, I will encrypt data on disk. If University hosting is chosen, I will not encrypt unless instructed to do so.

Work is continuing on the functionality for staff to add further comments and data to a student record - this is very nearly complete, and will fit in with the administrative functionality.

Work is also continuing on the offline editing and bulk upload functionality - this has been delayed slightly, although time saved due to the faster than expected development of administrative functionality should allow the offline editing functionality to be completed on schedule.

Work has not yet begun on the reporting functionality or the filemaker interaction functionality - these are due to take place during August, however planning for the reporting functionality should begin soon. The following points require consideration:

  • What are the reporting criteria? - e.g. list by school, institute, individual etc?
  • Is there an example available of a previous report?
  • In what format do colleagues require data?
  • Does the data need to be anonymised?
  • How should data be delivered? - For initial stages, the key requirements should be met first, then additional functionality can be developed.

Given the questions raised above, now is a good time for a further meeting. I will arrange one during the week beginning 19th July 2010 if possible.
